Christmas Markets Alsace

Colmar

Colmar is a miniature of Strasbourg. But its Christmas markets don’t leave anything to despair to its big sister. In fact, it can be sometimes even more espetacular!

Besides the traditional wooden chalets selling local handcrafts and seasonal delicacies, Colmar has an ice rink; a carrossel bar (how cool is that?), a ferris wheel (one for adults and one for kids)…and the enchantment of having its half-timbered houses and the river framing all of that.

In Colmar you can really feel the magic of the season.

Alsace Wine Road

The most beautiful wine road in France is scattered with medieval villages and charming cities, that become even more enchanting at this time of the year.

Like in a fairy tale, medieval walls, half-timbered buildings, renaissance wells and fountains…all this arleady magical setting is brough up to life with the christmas ornaments…and the smell of spices in the air.

Obernai, Kayserberg (“le plus authenitque”), Riquewhir, Ribeauvillé (“le marché medieval”), Eguisheim, Turckheim…the options are endless.

And eventhough every market is unique…there is no way to go wrong here…the magic of the season will find you!

Eco Musée Alsace

What is a Eco Musée? It is an open air museum where men’s acitivities and their daily lives are recreated. It is a way of educating us with regards to our past but also a way of preservening our culture for the future generations.

In Alsace, this open air museum recreated a rural landscape (Alsace was pretty much a rural region until recently). Farm houses, tools, workshops used in ancient farms are all gathered here, recreating a small rural village.

We can see fine examples of the local architecture (half timbered buildings), mills, ovens, workshops, animals…

A visit to this museuml is a great way to immerse yourself into the local culture in a casual and fun way.

But during the Xmas festivities, it becomes even more special…all the xmas decorations and the seasonal activities (tale telling, baking biscuits) will transport you into a magical word.

Let’s travel through the times together to tryly appreciate Alsatian Culture.
